As I know Rama(ರಾಮ ) or femenine part rame(ರಮೆ ) means night which means black/dark.
One para in Ramayana has this - 10.3.3cd Agni, far-spreading with conspicuous lustre, hath compassed Night [Rama] with whitely shining garments.
Ravana, as you have mentioned is not black because he was a Brahmin which indirectly means white/ fair complexioned .
My interest in Rama or Krishna is from historical, not religious, perspective.
Aryan and Dravidian are races and not religions.

It is a common belief that Christianity came to India with the Portuguese. But this is not true.
History says, Thomas came to India in the first century from Rome( or Jerusalem ?). He was considered as a contemporary of Jesus. He was one among the 12 apostles of Christianity. Followers of Thomas are considered as syrian christians with so many factions , like many castes among Hindus, which is too complicated to read and understand. Thomas was said to visited Gooruvayoor at that time & opened few churches around that region.
If any one has a too many doubts, we call him as doubting Thomas. This has origin from the "Thomas" of current discussion. He expressed doubt about Jesus. Exact details, either I have forgotten or don't know :( .

Shivaji had to fight Auraghazeb to retain his power in present day Maharastra. But logistically and BY experience Aurangazeb's armY wAS far superior. He hired blacks from Portugese for guerilla warfare. Portugese used to bring blacks from Ethiopia as slaves. These blacks settled in karnataka, Goa. In current karnataka, they are found in yellapura, siddapura, zoida taluks of Karwar district. They are called as 'Siddis'.
In 1996, I went to siddapura, yellapura, zoida to see them. They are also said to be present in Goa where portugese colonized. But I didnot see any in Goa or probably my eyes were blurred when I was in Goa !.
