RE: MMC1986 Train & my childhood

Same thing happened when I received your first, long, kannada mail in my mobile. As mobile does not recognise kannada fonts, mail was looking like containers in a goods train. I frantically searched for a lap/desktop and read the mail. It may sound caustic, but those mails were mediocre. I started loosing fascination for 'goods train' mails. We, being in medical profession, have experience which others will and shall envy. You, me, others can write better 'write ups' in our own language in much less words and which will be better baked!. Let us be purveyours of our own dishes than others, even if it is less well cooked.
I hope not loose my fascination for simple things like the way I did for trains!.

.........trains and line which was integral part of my childhood was sidelined(nepathyakke sariyithu!).
I started travelling in train after graduation & travelled significantly. My fascination for train changed into aversion because failure of trains to keep up the trend, failure to upgrade, dirt, filth, corruption, failure to maintain time.
I still travel medium distances in train because of my dislike for car & unfound phobia of DVT in bus journey!.......contd

Mylanna,
The childhood which I remember vividly was between 5 & 12 years of age. Before the age of 5 years, I am not able to recall properly. I donot consider life after the age of 12years as childhood(obviously!).

I was in a place called Bhadravathi at the said period. There was a railway line in front of my house. Morning 3 trains(? I think) and evening 3 trains used go regularly. Trains which used the track during noon and night were not used to come to my notice as either I was in school or sleeping respectively.
I didnot travel in train/s in that period even once, but trains were some sort of standard in my life during the period!. I am supposed to get up before the whistle of first train(? 6am). Otherwise, my mum used to wake me up telling that train was gone(as if I am supposed to catch train!). I am supposed to get ready before the whistle of second train(?8am) on saturdays & before whistle of 3rd train on week days(?9am). I am expected to come back home after evening 'play' before first evening train(?6.15pm) & go to bed before last evening train(?9.30pm). Iam expected to not to go out of railway line during 'play' sojourn. Not to ride bicycle out of railway line!. My classmates from areas outside railway line are like 'aliens'. I was astonished by the life outside the line when I was taken to that side once in 3 or 6 months. Anybody who hits 'gilli' or ball outside the lines supposed to get new'gilli' or ball while playing gilli dandu or cricket, but not suposed to cross said line to fetch gilli or ball!. Our favourite pastime(whenever somebody had 10 paise!) was to keep 10 paise coin on the line before train and see how large 10 paise had become once train moved over it. Occationally 'goods' train used take the track. It was 'unsaid pact' between myself and my neighbour, who was one year senior in school, to alert each other when goods train comes. So that we used to count number of containers, which sometimes go upto 60-70!.(we are still in touch with each other. He is a civil engineer in Bangalore's 'namma metro' converting the design into concrete!).
We moved to a different house with my teens which is far removed from railway lines................contd

Pothole or pathhole.

There are 70000 potholes in Bangalore within its coproration limits. It is a bane torture for commuters while boon for officials, contrctors......
I am always confused with the spelling of pothole. Is it 'pot'hole or 'path'hole. Though hole is on the path most call it has 'pot' hole!!.
You have any idea why this ambiguity is ?.
Bangalore Muncipal corporation is laying machine cut granite slabs on the pavements. It looks grand, neat and what not....... But I am afraid to walk on those granites. Not because of fear of sliding and ending with broken bone. Because they are going to disappear very fast. Granite slabs are neither interlocked, nor fixed irreversibly!. Slabs which are present during day will not be there in the night and vice versa. Happily walking on nice pavement while going through all your mails will definitely end me up in missing slab gap & into drainage!!!. Ofcourse, officials, corporators, MLAs, ministers, contractors have made millions in this job of pavement beautification!. It is the turn of common folk to take slabs & make merry!.
I still remember picture in Baily & Love where 'fall in man hole' causing urethral rupture.

It is raining in Bangalore

Weather in Bangalore is chilly, as good as many hill stations in India. But in the last couple of days, is associated with rain which, I think (like to get corrected if I am wrong), is uncommon in this part of the year. I did not see/read about any cyclones to cause rain in this season.
One more thing amazed me while searching for any cyclone(impending or prevailing), - all(or most) cyclones have 'feminine' names!!!. Do females are as devastating as cyclones? or cyclones are devastating because they have feminine names?.

Mask

One can see lot of constructions in Bangalore. Some are big, some wide &some tall. Opulance is obvious. Most of them are of recent origin. You can tell them as effect of abrupt spurt in Information technology which every media points Bangalore as the epicentre.
Though I came to Bangalore more than 3 years back, I travelled all over Bangalore in the last 2-3 months only. Though buildings are in grand scale, I am yet to see a building which left a mark in me. If you take Vidhanasoudha, high court, central library, despite of being centres of corruption', are far better for their archtectural splendour. Most of the modern day buildings are 'Masked' by glass or some kind of plastic shield!. I see no difference between females in burqa and modern day buildings, both beautiful things kept under cover!!. It is just blind imitation of west. A chance wasted &/or misutilized!!.
